The first time I read it, long ago, I cried. Every line speaks to something in my heart and life. I, too, get chills when I read it.Darcyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03702441292981376229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1802896743878321184.post-24956138392578797462010-01-28T07:26:41.739-08:002010-01-28T07:26:41.739-08:00What I posted on Adventures in Mercy:

So she set out to seek some relief outside of the places she was being hurt, home and church.
But of course Jesus, being the faithful and true, kept his promise to never leave her or forsake her, so he went along with her.
This young woman found friendly people, also wounded, seeking solace in partying and music. And there was solace in both. And so she hung out for awhile.
One of her partying friends turned her on to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. They were all big sci fi and fantasy adventure fans in that crowd. All were hoping for a better world than the one in which they lived.
And in those books, there was a poem. And in that poem, there was a supernatural calling to that young woman’s heart. For some reason that poem lived and demanded to be embraced and kept alive in that young woman’s heart and mind.
Of course the road continued to lead on to new places, darker places. But Jesus never left her side, and the poem continued to echo in her soul.
And one day, it happened. The deep roots into the love of God which that young woman put down as a child had survived the frost. The old message passed on through the centuries stayed strong. The ashes of a broken life were stirred up by the Holy Spirit, and a flame flickered to life.
And a light, from that SHADOW did SPRING.

The Riddle of Strider
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

The Fellowship of the Ring
by J.R.R.
